Pre-Settlement Trees

The map below shows all 58 pre-settlement trees (trees which are over 200 years old and pre-date European settlement). These are the oldest trees in Victoria Park Barrambin.

The Ecological LGID report prepared for the original Victoria Park Master Plan, when the park was intended to be re-wilded into a world-class public park, identified seven pre-settlement trees. A later MNES report prepared for the stadium EPBC referral, by the same company, stated that there are likely no pre-settlement trees in the park.

This claim is incorrect.

The presence of pre-settlement trees in Victoria Park Barrambin has been confirmed by multiple ecologists and arborists. Save Victoria Park Inc. has now mapped 58 of these significant trees, providing the clearest record to date of the park’s oldest living canopy trees.
