“Centenary Pool, designed by Jim Birrell, opened in 1959. He believed good buildings integrated into the contours of the landscape and were an extension of their environment. The sculptural curves of the building are set into the lush backdrop of Victoria Park. As an avid swimmer and an artist, I have celebrated this building in many different forms. The conceptual sketch for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics show this modest building subsumed into a monolithic aquatic centre that seems to divorce it from both Victoria Park and the subtropical vegetation that surrounds the pool.”
