(Brisbane, Australia 07 August 2026): The Games Infrastructure Authority has continued its mass tree clearing at Victoria Park Barrambin, with new footage showing towering eucalypts and ironbarks older than the city of Brisbane destroyed for the 2032 Olympic stadium.

Save Victoria Park estimates more than 100 trees, including hollow-bearing species, have been axed in the past two days. Thousands of others, including 200+ year old natives, remain in the firing line.

“Our beautiful park, promised as Brisbane’s green lungs, now resembles a scene of wood-chipped carnage,” said Save Victoria Park spokesperson Sue Bremner.

“All for the sake of a so-called sustainable Olympics. This has broken our hearts, but it hasn’t broken our resolve to protect this place from further devastation."

Advocates remain at the park and will continue to document the ongoing destruction, despite active attempts to deter the community from viewing the site.

“The authorities have gone to great lengths to block us from seeing what’s actually going on,” said Ms Bremner. “Thick fabric is draped around all the fences, and new signs have appeared overnight warning the public not to film.

“The Crisafulli government claims to be transparent, but in practice all we have seen with this project is secrecy and spin. Our community deserves better than that.”
