Sentinels

“These palms always appear to me like sentinels and in October each year they seem to be protecting that gem of a Jacaranda tree. The palms are probably more than 100 years old. This location on the slope coming down from the former golf clubhouse is probably where the main Olympic stadium is proposed to be constructed. Unless this tragedy is stopped, these sentinels will no longer stand at attention guarding this 150 year-old park…and the lavender petals and this jacaranda tree will bloom no more.”
