“I believe in the ‘ripple effect’ in society. The power that individuals have to make a ripple that spreads further and further and creates more ripples in its wake. So many people say they can’t change what’s wrong. They say why something can’t be done rather than thinking about how it could be done. I’m not a wide eyed idealist. I do know how hard it is. But individuals can make a difference and one by one they can send ripples out that eventually become tidal waves. First of all we have to convince ourselves. The ripples in this painting were not created by throwing a stone in the pond. These ripples occurred when one of the many ducks at Victoria Park took off from the water hole, leaving this perfect circular ripple as a reminder of its presence.”
